Mary Ann "Sally" Ulman is a highly experienced Lean Six Sigma trainer and coach, with a proven track record of successfully deploying process improvement methodologies with clients from various industries worldwide in the last 3 decades. As a skilled facilitator in team building, problem solving, metric development, and process improvement strategy implementation, Ms. Ulman brings over 16 years of experience from her early career with Chevron, USA, where she held positions as a Quality Facilitator, Corrosion Engineer, and Industrial Water Treatment Technologist in Central California and Sumatra, Indonesia.
In 1999, Ms. Ulman founded Variance Reduction International, Inc. (VRI), where she has worked with clients to deliver process improvement and bottomline results and managed, trained and supported a team of over 50 consultants delivering Lean Sigma consulting services to various worldwide clients. These included Chevron, Caltex Pacific Indonesia, GlaxoWellcome in Pakistan, GlaxoSmithKline in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, London, Jakarta and India, Valeant Pharmaceutical, Texaco, Baker Petrolite, Aera Energy, Nalco, Mazda USA, Teac America, Anadarko, Devon Energy, Auto Meter, Ingersoll-Rand, Halliburton, United Way Agencies and various public seminars. She has trained and mentored several Black Belts and Master Black Belts to build organizational capabilities.
She invented the concept of world class supply chain process performance through Holistic Doctrine™ that uses a structured approach of discovery – Customer Needs, Process Performance, Prioritized Issues and Solutions and has delivered millions of dollars in the P&Ls of the companies.
Ms. Ulman has been the Six Sigma instructor for the Lean Sigma Black Belt program at San Diego State University and Sonoma State University. Her extensive consulting background includes industrial and service applications of DOE, SPC, Lean Sigma, reliability, supply chain management, change management, and team building techniques.
She holds a B.A. in Physical Education from California State University, Northridge, Six Sigma Black Belt certification from University of Texas, Master Black Belt certification from Air Academy Associates, California Junior College Teaching Credential, Corrosion Technologist and Coating Inspection Certification from the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. Currently, Ms. Ulman partners with organizations to deploy process improvement methodologies and develop training programs to support these endeavors
